Counselor-Orange-County
55I knew this was my thing
I'm an Orange County therapist. It's 23 years now since I became a therapist, and I was never interested in anything else. After my first Psychology class I decided to become at therapist, and after that I always was the best in class in this subject. This subject seemed to be simply fascinating. I studied many subjects. I was very interested in the development of the child psyche, so I first studied Child Development in Orange County. How should we handle children, since they are very unique, and how how help them if they need it? This is very hard to know.
I studied so much about children. When I was working with disabled children, I learned a lot, and I understood that what they really need is motivation and determination. I also learned that children should only be compared to themselves, to their own development, and not to others. Many people don't know this. Everything matters. For disabled children every small sign of development is good, because these can later lead to a faster development. If a child can learn some form of communication, it's already a great chance that he or she won't have to go to a mental institution. It's a the most important.
I like to help others. In my opinion helping others is the greatest thing someone can do, so I decided to help as many people as I can, and learn how to help them in the most effective way. This is me. Being a therapist in Orange County is not only the dream came true but also great honor for me.
"I take the tough ones"
I've been a therapist in Orange county for many years, and I know that those who come to counseling and they want to fight to improve their will."I take the tough ones" says a sign in my office, and I actually got it from a boy with serious drug issues. I agree with the statement. I worked with people who had a strong will, even if their problems seem overwhelming and very difficult. I am ready to work with anyone, as long as they have motivation.
Why did I choose to work with fear?
I seem to be fearless. Many people believe that I don't have any fears. But I am afraid of things that fly, I can't bear even the sight of a butterfly or a parrot, I freak out if I see a moth, or even if I look at pictures with bird on. My daughters also have this problem, because they always saw me panic. I actually tried therapy, even more methods, but the changes were not very noticeable. Later I discovered something.
One day a memory arose in my head...
One day I was looking at a magazine when I noticed an article entitled "When the Locusts Come". Only then I remembered suddenly the memory of a frightening event from my childhood. One day when me and my sister were walking home, millions of locusts showed up, making an awful sound, and before we noticed they were all around us. We were so terrified that we even got into a random car to get away from the flying creatures. My mom tried to calm me down, but even though I forgot about this incident, it affected me deeply, and remembering it seemed not to help me get over it.
Often an insight is not enough
It was so difficult to get over these fears. I realized later that I didn't have a phobia, but Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, but this didn't help me either. Many years after I took a specialization in E.M.D.R. Usually soldiers use this therapy It is very effective for P.T.S.D. I worked on my fears, and the reason I liked it was that I didn't feel like a client of a therapist, it all seemed like a nice coincidence. It was great.
My life has changed and I have changed. A little bit later I noticed that I liked looking at seagulls, that they are actually very beautiful, and I didn't even notice butterflies or moths anymore. It's all over now. My fear is gone, and I didn't have panic attacks since that. I am so happy that this intervention worked, and I can't wait to help other people get rid of their fears in the same way I did, because it's a great feeling. I am a different person now.
